What Is War Mode in MW3?
The new installment has a lot in store for us, including the Open Combat missions and the brand-new Modern Warfare 3 modes, such as Cutthroat. But besides the new additions, players can expect the return of familiar features, among which is War.
The mode made its debut in 2017’s Call of Duty: World War 2 and quickly became quite popular with players. How Is War Mode Played?
The mode offers a unique experience as it’s driven by narrative rather than gameplay. It sees two teams (of 12 players each) – attackers and defenders – acting out the war scenarios on a massive map. The former need to complete multiple objectives, like pushing a tank through a street or demolishing a bridge, while the latter should do everything to stop their opponents. This is the core of War mode gameplay MW3.
So, how to win War mode in MW3? As you can guess, the attackers can secure victory by completing their objectives, and the defenders can clinch the round if they prevent the attacking team from achieving their goals until the time runs out. In the first iteration of the mode, teams could switch their roles after the game so that everyone could experience being both attackers and defenders. Whether this feature will remain in Modern Warfare 3 is yet to be revealed.
According to the devs, when playing this mode, the players will “enter a vast, purpose-built landscape,” which hints that there will be unique War maps. Moreover, CoD: World War 2 featured seven Operations, including battles across war-torn villages and an intense fight on Omaha Beach, so we might expect the same or slightly different number of scenarios in Modern Warfare 3.
The players praised War for its creative levels and the narrative tailored to each experience and matched with the campaign. So, when the devs announced the return of this beloved mode, fans shared nothing but excitement about this news.
