Alchemy. One of the most mysterious and alluring professions in World of Warcraft that can make you a wealthy man. This guide will tell you everything you need to know about Alchemy in WoTLK and how you can fill your pockets with gold by practicing it. Are you ready to know the recipe for your wealth? Then let’s go!

Introducing Alchemy in Wrath of the Lich King

Alchemy is a crafting profession that allows you to mix and turn numerous reagents (ingredients, mostly herbs) into elixirs, potions, flasks, and transmuting materials into more valuable ones. The products of alchemist’s work are highly valued as they are useful for all sorts of PvP and PvE content and are essential for other crafting professions, such as Jewelcrafting

The Wrath of the Lich King introduced new bonuses to the Alchemy, making learning it even more appealing. For instance, now alchemists can create BoP trinkets that double as Philosopher’s Stone required for transmutation:

Moreover, those who practice Alchemy are able to make consumables such as  Endless Healing Potion,  Endless Mana Potion, and Flask of the North for their own use.

Also, the masters of Alchemy got a new passive skill – Mixology – that increases the power and duration of flasks and elixirs that they create for themselves. For instance, here are bonus effects you can get for using certain flasks:

  • Flask of Stoneblood gives you an additional 1300 HP
  • Flask of Endless Rage adds 180 Attack Power
  • Flask of Pure Mojo provides you with an additional 45 Mana/5 sec
  • Flask of the Frost Wyrm gives you 125 Spell Power

In addition, there’s Northrend Alchemy Research, that is learned at skill level 400 and allows you to make new discoveries every three days for learning new recipes by using herbs from Northrend. For those who don’t know – discovery is a mechanic used by alchemists to learn new recipes during the process of creating a consumable and transmutation.

As you can see, Alchemy in WoTLK is quite an interesting profession that grants you a handful of great bonuses. And the great thing is that the profession is quite lucrative, as we’ve already mentioned above, so let us tell you why.

How Can Alchemy Make You Rich?

potions

You know that alchemists can produce potions, elixirs, flasks, and transmutes – these are their main fields of expertise and, therefore, source of income. Players always need consumables for a multitude of activities, especially end-game ones, and jewelcrafters need items that only alchemists can make for their business.

Some items have higher costs than others on the Auction House. Some of the most sought-after consumables in WoTLK are the ones that buff stats, increase and restore mana, and heal. So, here are some of those:

  • Flask of the Frost Wyrm
  • Flask of Pure Mojo
  • Flask of Endless Rage
  • Flask of Stoneblood
  • Elixir of Accuracy
  • Elixir of Deadly Strikes
  • Elixir of Protection
  • Potion of Speed
  • Powerful Rejuvenation Potion

As for the results of transmutations, they are valuable as well because many crafters, especially jewelcrafters, need them. Due to their skill, alchemists can turn one type of material into another, which is harder to find. For instance, one can transmute several Saronite bars into one Titanium bar with the help of Transmute: Titanium

Furthermore, there are some base Epic and Meta gems that only the masters of Alchemy can create for Jewelcrafting, including:

All of the consumables and results of transmute have a high demand on the Auction House, meaning that you have a great chance to sell them for a nice amount of gold. However, it’s never hurt to keep a close eye on what items are popular and essential at the moment to craft and sell them as well to increase your profit even further.

Okay, now that you know what’s in demand, it’s time to learn where you can get recipes and how you can craft the Alchemy items.

Creating Alchemy Items

crafting

Obviously, to craft potions, flasks, etc., you need to know their recipes, which raises the question – where to find these? Well, there are several sources: Alchemy trainers, discoveries, which we mentioned above, and drops.

Conveniently enough, most of the recipes that you will use are learned from trainers who help you level up your Alchemy skill, but we’ll cover it a bit later. Thanks to trainers, you can get Indestructible Potion, Spellpower Elixir, Transmute: Ametrine, Lesser Flask of Toughness, and many other recipes. Additionally, there’s one recipe that you can obtain from the quest, and that’s Transmute: Cardinal Ruby, which is rewarded for completing Cardinal Ruby.

Recipes like Recipe: Mighty Fire Protection Potion, Recipe: Mighty Nature Protection Potion, and others highlighted in green drop from various mobs in Icecrown. And finally, there are discovered ones, which you may find while crafting. In a sense, the mechanic adds that sweet feeling of wonder because it encourages you to try different combinations. Moreover, with Northrend Alchemy Research, you can variously mix Northrend herbs to learn new recipes once every three days. So, don’t hesitate to try new things!

Once you have recipes, you need to acquire ingredients, which are mostly herbs. In this expansion, you can use the following plants:

  • Goldclover
  • Tiger Lily
  • Talandra’s Rose
  • Adder’s Tongue
  • Lichbloom
  • Icethorn
  • Frost Lotus

When you gather all the components, you can craft. For potions, elixirs, and flasks, you can use Imbued Vial and Enchanted Vial purchased from vendors.

As for transmute, it requires Philosopher’s Stone, which doesn’t have to be equipped, it just needs to be in inventory. The trinkets that double it, like Mercurial Alchemist Stone, can also be used for this purpose.

This is how you create your Alchemy items, which you can then either use yourself or sell or trade with others, which is a great gold farming strategy. Now, it seems like the only topic we should cover is learning Alchemy in Wrath of the Lich King.

How Can You Become an Alchemist?

If you’re new to the expansion, you need to level your Alchemy skill in Classic and The Burning Crusade first, as in WoTLK, you can upgrade your level from 350 to 450. Once you have your skill level at 350, you can continue your learning with special trainers whom you can find across the map.

Alliance Alchemy Trainers:

Horde Alchemy Trainers:

Neutral Alchemy Trainers:

When your level is at least 68 and your skill level is 325 or higher, you can pick one of three specializations that grant you up to 20% extra flasks/potions/elixirs/ transmutes when creating these items.

You can pick only one spec to learn, and to do so, you can choose one of three quests the faction-specific trainers in Hellfire Peninsula offer you. After completing the one you select, you will become either Elixir or Potion, or Transmutation master, making the most out of your profession. And that’s how you learn Alchemy in Wrath of the Lich King.

Moreover, you don’t have to stick to just one profession. For instance, you can increase your income from Alchemy by pairing it with Herbalism. That way, you will gather all needed components yourself without the need to spend gold on them and sell them alongside your potions, elixirs, or other items. On the other hand, you can combine Alchemy with Jewelcrafting to craft even more items for sale without the need to buy some supplies from someone else. The choice is entirely yours.

Master Alchemy in No Time

Overall, Alchemy is a highly lucrative profession as almost everything you create can be sold for a good price on the Auction House or to other crafters. By leveling this profession and picking specialization, you can extend your Alchemy skill and make even more gold due to producing rare items. Plus, there’s always an option to pair it with other lucrative professions, such as Jewelcrafting and Herbalism

However, it only sounds like it’s an easy craft to learn, upgrade, and use. In fact, you’ll have to spend hours and hours enhancing your skills and learning recipes. Additionally, there’s strong competition which affects the prices and the amount of gold you’ll get. You have to constantly keep an eye on items in high demand and act fast to produce them.

All of this can slow down your gold farming process and bring annoyance instead of joy. But luckily for you, there’s LFCarry.com, where you can easily master Alchemy, complete any quests, level your character, and earn as much gold as you want in a timely fashion. Do you want to see how it works yourself? Then give it a try right now and enjoy the game to the fullest!
