A Surprise Drop That Wasn’t Meant to Happen
Destiny 2 players logging in for the Heresy Act 2 update got more than they expected. Bungie accidentally released the Rite of the Nine content—three weeks ahead of schedule. Originally planned for April 1, this dungeon-focused event is supposed to bring back Prophecy, Spire of the Watcher, and Ghosts of the Deep with new challenges, modes, and loot.
However, the content wasn’t finished, leading to unexpected bugs, missing weapon models, and inaccessible features.
- Episode Heresy Supreme Bundle
Unleash the full potential of Episode Heresy with the Supreme Bundle, a complete package designed to help you experience all the new content without the grind.
- Sundered Doctrine Dungeon Boost
Deep within Savathûn's Throne World, the Sundered Doctrine dungeon awaits, filled with deadly encounters and intricate puzzles.
What Was Unintentionally Released?
Table of Contents
Although not everything was live, several key aspects of the event were suddenly available:
- New Dungeon Activity – Players were able to enter a dungeon tied to Rite of the Nine, though parts were incomplete.
- Weapon Drops – Some of the returning weapons, like the Prosecutor auto rifle, appeared but were missing in-game models.
- Difficulty Modes – The new challenge levels—Explorer, Eternity, and Contest (Ultimatum)—were accessible, and Ultimatum mode appeared to be fully functional.
- The Third Spire – This social space from Trials of the Nine returned, but players couldn’t launch activities from it.
Bungie’s Response and Emergency Fixes
As players rushed into the unfinished content, Bungie quickly took action:
- March 11, 1:35 PM PT – Bungie took Destiny 2 offline for emergency maintenance to investigate the issue.
- March 11, 1:59 PM PT – Instead of keeping the game offline, Bungie disabled all Rite of the Nine activities while leaving the rest of Destiny 2 playable.
- Official Statement – Bungie confirmed that access to the event was a mistake and that all related rewards would be disabled until the official launch.
According to Bungie:
“We are aware of an issue where early, incomplete versions of Rite of the Nine dungeons are accessible. Access to Rite of the Nine activities will be disabled as soon as possible, and all related rewards will be disabled from use until further notice.”
What This Means for Players
If you managed to earn weapons or progress in the activity before it was shut down, you might be wondering what happens next. Bungie has yet to confirm if early-earned rewards will be adjusted, removed, or changed, but it’s likely that weapons obtained during the leak could see some modifications before the official launch.
For now, players will have to wait until April 1 to experience the full Rite of the Nine event as intended.
What to Expect When Rite of the Nine Officially Launches
When the content returns in Heresy Act 3, players can look forward to:
- Three Dungeon Revivals – Prophecy, Spire of the Watcher, and Ghosts of the Deep returning with new mechanics.
- Full Weapon Pool – Bungie is bringing back several sought-after weapons, including:
- Prosecutor (Auto Rifle)
