Last Changes to Trials of Osiris in Destiny 2
Get ready for some exciting changes in Destiny 2’s PvP mode, Trials of Osiris! Bungie has announced significant updates to Passages, matchmaking, and the introduction of soft pools. Read on to learn more about how these changes will impact your Trials experience.
TABLE OF CONTENTS
Refining Passages: Wealth and Mercy
Destiny 2’s PvP mode, Trials of Osiris, will see significant improvements this season, including updates to Passages. Two major changes to expect are:
- Wealth Passages: Extra Trials rank awarded for every win, with increasing rewards as your major rank goes up.
- Mercy Passages: Forgiving two losses for players who haven’t achieved Flawless for the week, reverting to forgiving only one loss once Flawless is reached.
These updates aim to make Trials more forgiving and improve players’ chances to acquire top-tier loot, such as Adept-class weapons.
Matchmaking Improvements: Aiming for a Better Experience
Bungie is revamping Trials of Osiris matchmaking with the following goals in mind:
- Allowing players to team up without worrying about Flawless status.
- Removing the incentive to reset cards for farming or carrying.
- Better protecting players struggling in the playlist.
Introduced in Season 20, Fireteam matchmaking prioritizes matching like-sized teams against each other. Additionally, Bungie will test a new Trials matchmaking system via the experimental Trials Labs mode, eliminating the Flawless pool and ticket-based matchmaking.
Additionally, after the mid-season patch, Bungie will use its experimental Trials Labs mode to gather feedback on a new Trials matchmaking system, which will remove the Flawless pool and ticket-based matchmaking in favor of something different.
Introducing Soft Pools: Challenger and Practice Modes in Trials Labs
Last Trials of Osiris Changes in Destiny 2
Bungie describes soft pools as matchmaking that generally avoids blending pools unless a match needs to be established quickly. As part of the Trials Labs initiative, two “soft” pools, Challenger and Practice, will be introduced to Trials of Osiris to test and refine the player experience.
Challenger Pool: Designed for players seeking Flawless status, it matches players solely on connection without considering tickets, wins, or skill.
Practice Pool: Aimed at new or less experienced players, this pool matches players based on connection and weekly performance, offering stomp protection and easier matches to help struggling players recover.
Players who have any card with no losses–including a card after reset–or those playing with someone in their fireteam that has a card with no losses, will be placed in this pool. Using the Practice pool to farm wins will result in slower matchmaking and being locked into the Challenger pool for the weekend.
Both of these soft pools will be launched within the Trials Labs, allowing Bungie to gather feedback and make necessary adjustments before potentially integrating them into the main live mode.
