Before starting…

We started by looking at the specs’ actual in-game performance to make this list. However, these performances are almost a month old, so we moved on to simulations, which are purely for a single target. To get a more comprehensive view, we also examined their performance in Mythic Plus in-game live results in the beta. Additionally, we considered the competition within each class, as a powerful healer or tank in the same class could affect the popularity of a DPS spec.

Beast Mastery & Marksmanship Hunters

Beast Mastery Hunter

Beast Mastery Hunter currently sits in the C tier. Despite recent changes to its talents and the power of the hero talents, particularly Dark Ranger, its AoE and Mythic Plus performance is lacking. While it has decent single-target damage, especially with Dark Ranger, its overall performance in Mythic Plus is holding it back. Additionally, the strong performance of Survival Hunter in AoE further diminishes the priority of Beast Mastery in the ranged DPS meta.

Marksmanship Hunter

Marksmanship Hunter shares a similar fate, also landing in the C tier. Unlike Beast Mastery, Marksmanship doesn’t have the luxury of choosing between hero talents in Mythic Plus, as Sentinel is the strongest for AoE. This lack of flexibility, combined with the need to choose between AoE and single target talents, significantly cuts their Mythic Plus damage, placing them alongside Beast Mastery in a disappointing position.

Doom, Despair, Depression: Devastation Evoker

Devastation Evoker is in a tough spot, primarily due to the overwhelming popularity of Augmentation Evoker. Despite decent single-target damage, the lack of working APLs for their Sims and the dominance of Augmentation Evoker make it unlikely for Devastation to be relevant, especially in Mythic Plus.

Mages: A Roller Coaster Ride

Fire Mage

Fire Mage is currently in a weird position. Initially strong with Sun Fury, it has been nerfed multiple times, leading to a shift towards Frostfire. However, further nerfs to Living Bomb and related talents have left Fire Mage tuned. While it has potential with better tuning, it currently sits lower in the tier list.

Frost & Arcane Mage

Both Frost and Arcane Mages are in a good spot. Despite recent nerfs to Spell Slinger, Arcane remains strong with Sun Fury. Frost Mage, benefiting from multiple buffs to Spell Slinger, is also performing well in single target and AoE. The strong performance of these two specs further diminishes the value of Fire Mage.

Elemental Shaman

Elemental Shaman is performing very well, especially in Mythic Plus. Despite some nerfs, the buffs to Stormbringer and Tempest have made it a strong contender in AoE. Its single-target damage is also decent, making it a versatile and powerful choice for the upcoming season.

Balance Druid

Balance Druid is struggling. Despite some potential for improvement with buffs, its current performance in single target and AoE is poor. The lack of flexibility in its talent tree and the poor tuning make it a less favorable choice in the current meta.

Warlocks: A Mixed Bag

Affliction Warlock

Affliction Warlock is currently the strongest of the three Warlock specs. The recent buffs to Soul Harvester have made it a viable option for single-target damage, while Wither remains strong in Mythic Plus. Its consistent AoE damage and one-minute burst windows make it a solid choice.

Demonology & Destruction Warlock

While decent in single target, Demonology Warlock lacks the AoE power of Affliction. The recent nerfs to Diabolist have also impacted its performance. Once strong with Diabolist, Destruction Warlock has seen significant nerfs, making it the weakest of the three specs in single target and AoE.

Shadow Priest

Shadow Priest has seen a resurgence, thanks to multiple buffs to Surge of Insanity and Empower Surges. The shift towards Archon has improved its performance in single target and AoE, making it one of the more robust specs in Mythic Plus. The lack of competition from other Priest specs further solidifies its place in the meta.
