If you prefer the latter, then we’re pleased to welcome you to our comprehensive FFXIV farming currency guide. Here, we’ll walk you through all the ways you can make yourself a rich man so that you can choose the one or many that best suit your character. Enjoy!
TABLE OF CONTENTS
Before we dive into our guide, here are a few words about the game and its currency. Final Fantasy XIV Online is an extremely popular MMORPG and a great installment in the famous fantasy franchise of the same name. It offers fans an opportunity to be a part of immersive and touching stories and meet amazing characters in the land of Eorzea, where a player must face the upcoming threat of invasion by the Garlean Empire.
To be able to live within this fantasy world, interact with all its aspects and be ready for any fight, your character needs money or Gil, a currency that’s used to buy all sorts of goods in the game. This is what you’ll be farming and what our guide is dedicated to.
Now, since we’ve covered these two topics, let’s talk about Gil farming methods for both beginners and advanced players.
Use New Content to Update Your Gathering and Crafting Skills
First things first, let us say a few words about what these disciplines are. Those who can synthesize the materials to create all sorts of things are called Disciples of the Hand. There are eight disciplines, which include:
- Carpenter – the master of wood
- Blacksmith – the weapons and metal tools maker
- Armorer – the armor maker
- Goldsmith – the one who creates beautiful accessories by using precious metals and stones
- Leatherworker – the master of refining hides and furs into clothing
- Weaver – the one who can make fiber and fabric from different resources
- Alchemist – the master of nature and science by creation potions and potables from mundane materials
- Culinarian – the kings of cuisines who can cook any consumable
Apart from that, there are those who possess extraordinary gathering skills that they use to extract natural resources. They are called Disciples of the Land, and have three disciplines to choose from:
- Miner – the one who extracts material from the rock faces that are later used by the Blacksmith, Armorer, and Goldsmith crafting disciplines
- Botanist – a person who collects resources from plants and trees for Carpenters, Weavers, Culinarians, and Alchemists
- Fisher – the one that harvests fish and other sea creatures from the waters and sells them to others
Now that we’ve defined the crafting and gathering disciplines, let’s get back to the strategy of keeping those disciplines up-to-date with new content. This is one of the simplest ones, which requires you to keep an eye on every new item and gear that you can craft and gather for selling when the major update is out. The new stuff usually has a very high demand, so those who can make it or collect the needed materials for crafting fast enough always end up with loads of Gil in their pockets. That way, if you’re a Disciple of the Hand or Disciple of the Land, make sure to level your discipline to make the most of your work.
Level Up Gathering Disciplines
Speaking of leveling, the gathering disciplines are arguably easier to upgrade since it, unlike crafting, costs nothing to a player. So, suppose you’re only at the beginning of your journey in Eorzea. In that case, it’s better to become Disciples of the Land and level up by gathering resources, selling them, and completing challenges. Moreover, it would be a great start for earning Gil.
You can pick up any gathering discipline, but Miner is probably the most profitable one.
Use Your Crafting Skills to the Utmost
Like gathering, don’t forget to level up your crafting discipline if you have one. Disciples of the Hand have many opportunities to roll in Gil, and one of them is by crafting materials for class quests. Many players prefer buying items needed for quests rather than making the ones themselves, and you can use this to your advantage. Just learn what these items are, craft them and make a fortune by selling them to players.
Another way of making good money with crafting is by collecting Master Recipes, which grants you access to all crafting recipes. They become obtainable once you reach level 50 and complete the Just Tooling Around in Mor Dhona quest, which can be picked up by Guiding Star (X: 21.9, Y: 6.9).
There are three Master Recipe Tomes: Crafting, Demimateria, and Glamours, which you can buy and use only if you’re at the highest level. The items from them that you can craft and sell are unique, which naturally affects their cost and demand. But they require crafting and gathering scripts to purchase.
Awaken Your Adventurous Side by Completing Quests and Challenges
They are a source of items and Gil and what helps level up. There are several types of content that offer you rewards and currency, so let’s walk you through all of them.
Main Scenario Quest (MSQ)
They have minimum level requirements, and you can start them by interacting with NPC with the Main Scenario Quest icon above their head. Some of them involve interacting with another NPC, while others may send you to run Dungeons, slay monsters, collect items, and more. Completing them grants you Experience points, Gil, and sometimes other rewards.
Daily and Weekly Challenges
There are also daily and weekly challenges that reset regularly and introduce different tasks, including roulettes and beastmen quests from Beast Tribes.
Duty roulette is a feature that allows players of different levels to participate in various duties – from Dungeons and Guildhests to Treasure Hunt Zones and Adventuring Forays. To start a duty, choose one from the available ones in the Duty Finder feature (which you may find in the menu) and from a group from your friends, other players, or NPCs. Most duties revolve around combat and can best be done in a group, however, you can also choose a solo option. Moreover, all duties have a timer in which you must complete them. But all are worthwhile as they reward you with Experience points, Gil, and materia, which you can later sell.
Beastmen quests are given by Beast Tribes and mostly include gathering- or crafting-related tasks. You can earn Experience, Gil, Ventures, Allagan Tomestones, and Reputation points. The latter is actually quite important because by increasing your Reputation, you can gain access to the tribe vendor, which sells unique mounts, minions, furnishings, and other useful items.
On top of that, there’s also the Challenge log featuring a list of a variety of objectives. Finishing them grants Gil and Experience, and overall completion guarantees additional rewards. To unlock the Challenge log, one must do the level 15 quest “Rising to the Challenge.”
Another weekly activity is Wondrous Tails, which is available to players who are at least level 60. It allows players to complete semi-randomized duties for Certificate of Commendations of varying quality that can be exchanged for rewards. To unlock this activity, you need to speak with the NPC Unctuous Adventurer in Idyllshire (X:5.7, Y:6.1) and accept the quest “Keeping Up with the Aliapohs.” Each week, players can accept a new journal from Khloe in Idyllshire (X:5.7, Y:6.1) containing a series of objectives.
Guildleves or Levequests
These are repeatable quests that you can complete as many times as you want – alone or in a group. The trick is that to do them, you need to have Leve allowances, which are granted to players every 12 hours (three at a time). To begin a Guildleve, speak with an NPC with <Levemete> under their name. After that, these quests will appear in your Journal.
FATEs
Full Active Time Events, aka FATEs, are dynamic scenarios that appear across Eorzea and usually involve boss fights, escort missions, and other objectives. Rewards for completing such events include Experience, Gil, and Grand Company seals.
To discover and participate in FATE, simply look for a special indicator that randomly appears on your map, go there, and enter the blue circle.
The Forbidden Land, Eureka Anemos
It’s an instanced area filled with tons of references to Final Fantasy XI and with a wide range of tasks that players can undertake. However, only players at level 70 can go there, but before that, they need to complete the “And We Shall Call It Eureka” quest, given by Galiena at Rhalgr’s Reach (X:9.8, Y:12.5). The zone’s objectives offer exceptional rewards that you can sell for a very good price.
Palace of the Dead and Heaven on High
These are deep dungeons that offer pretty great loot, which you can sell for a very nice price. Among the rewards you can get are rare orchestrion rolls, minions, and more. The Palace of the Dead dungeon is located in South Shroud at Quarrymill (X:25.2 Y:20.6) and becomes accessible after completing the “The House That Death Built” quest.
Heaven-on-High is an ever-changing dungeon for more high-leveled players. You need to be at level 61 at least to enter it. Like the Palace of the Dead, it’s great for leveling and getting unique rewards, which can be later sold. So, if you’re an advanced player, try running this one.
Know What and How to Sell
Since now you know where you can farm Gil and get special rewards, now it’s time to talk about what sells better.
Glamour Gear
Just like in the real world, players want to express their individuality through unique clothing and outfits. That’s when your crafting and gathering skills can come in handy. All you need is to keep an eye out for updates that include new casual clothing that can be worn at any skill level and craft them. But it’s worth mentioning that making such gear requires a crafter of a high level, like Weaver.
Moreover, a crafter often needs rare items to create unique outfits, which is a job for a high-level gatherer. Yes, it’s hard work, but believe us – the effort is worth it because when this kind of gear is hot and new, you can sell it for an extremely high price.
To put the result of your work on sale, just list it on the Market Board and set the price.
Sell What You Acquired
All those rewards and items you obtained through the activities mentioned above you can easily sell to others. However, the boss-themed weapons and purchases from Tribe vendors have the highest demand. Just make sure to check their prices on the Market Board daily to set a reasonable cost.
Hunt Minions
Minions are a big deal in the game, so it’s no wonder many players are trying to collect them, especially the rare ones. You can use this demand as an opportunity to farm Gil. The best tactic is to check on the Market Board what Minions are sellable and get those by searching dungeons, raids, or through gathering, crafting, and other available ways.
Trust Your Guts
If you’re an experienced player and seller, you can try to make some Gil by reselling some items. Due to the fact that some items are highly needed one day and completely forgotten the other, you can use this situation to your advantage. Just buy something at a lower price and wait for it to become desirable again and sell it for a higher price. However, it’s hard to keep an eye on the dynamic and see the right moment for such ‘hustle.’ So, be careful.
Other Interesting Ways To Earn Gil
Join Map Parties
The high-level players can buy or get maps during a gathering or as rewards from Khloe’s journals and, instead of selling, use them. Sometimes, map dungeons can be a source of great loot and loads of Gil, so yes, in that case, keeping the maps is far more profitable than just trading them.
Try Gardening
This one is for patient fans who are ready to invest their time and money into it. First, you need to have a property, such as a Free Company house or your own, where you can freely grow your plants. Some of them, like Thavnairian Onions, are extremely valuable for players but require cross-breeding other vegetables to get the correct seeds and frequent watering. If you think you have what it takes to start Gardening, then try it.
Send Retainers out on Ventures
Yes, you can send retainers on ventures by using special “ventures” currency and expect them to return with some nice loot, like Fat Cat minion, you can sell. You can get the “venture” currency by finishing Tribe quests and spending your company credits earned from FATEs and quests.
Explore the Fastest Method of Gil Farming
Well, we’ve described several ways that can earn you from a few thousand to a million Gil. You can use one of them or combine various to maximize your income, which we highly recommend. However, no matter what you choose, you’ll have to spend a lot of time figuring out the way they work, leveling up, grinding, or simply waiting, which is far from fun, right?
