Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2023
Throughout the first day of the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2023, Square Enix and Creative Business Unit III introduced the MMO’s upcoming expansion, Dawntrail.
With the release of a cinematic video, Square Enix announced this 7.0 expansion, which serves as a fresh start for Final Fantasy XIV. Following the video, director Naoki Yoshida stepped in to deliver a presentation showing the Dawntrail expansion, which will be released in the summer of 2024.
Yoshitaka Amano, a renowned illustrator, produced the emblem below, emphasizing gold shades, the expansion’s motif color. Yoshida stated they aimed to “bring the best summer vacation a hero could have” to the fanbase. According to Yoshida, Dawntrail is a significant departure from the prior expansion. Dawntrail is lighter in tone than Endwalker, which is more gloomy.
It's a new beginning of Final Fantasy XIV [and] the theme is a journey of discovery," ... "As you know, the arc we've been on from 1.0 to Endwalker about Hydaelyn and Zodiark has concluded. So you can think of this as our first step into a new story for Final Fantasy XIV.
In the presentation, one slide states that an unusual visitor will welcome the players. A guest from the new world seeks the Warrior of Light’s assistance in a ritual of succession to decide Tural’s future monarch.
Alongside Alphinaud, Alisaie, and Erenville, the warrior of light embarks upon a journey across the Indigo Deep. Should rumor be true, the contest may lead them to the fabled gates of a city of gold. Little do they know that it will also see the scions divided, teasing that players will soon discover who are their allies and who are their rivals in this contest
Yoshida also revealed a few of the new areas players will be exploring in Dawntrail:
Yok Tural
The tropical New World area shown in the Dawntrail video is Yok Tural. It is located west of Eorzea and is home to several towns that coexist with nature. Hence it lacks industrialization in comparison to other areas in Final Fantasy XIV. Players will encounter new characters, friends, foes, equipment, and more in Yok Tural.
Tuliyollal
Tuliyollal, situated in Yok Tural, is the newest major settlement in Dawntrail. It is known as “the sea of the federal nation-state governing Tural” and lies in the far north of the continent. Gulool Ja Ja, a two-headed Mamool Ja, rules the country. Mamool Ja is holding a competition to select who would succeed him. Because this city promotes living in harmony with nature, it is not too industrialized.
Urqopacha
Urqopacha is a hilly area located in Yok Tural. It is inhabited by “peoples both exceedingly large and unusually small in nature.” These villages can be found across the vicinity’s highlands. During the presentation, a slide read: “Over a thousand years ago, long before the Tuliyollal came to be, Urqopacha was the proud heart of the Giant’s Empire, which spanned the entirety of Yok Tural. While their descendants live on in the region, only ruins remain of the Empire’s glorious days.”
Yak Tel
Yak Tel is a dense woodland in Yok Tural that may be reached from Tuliyollal through “dirigible flight over the southeastern mountains.”
“So dense is its foliage that the forest floor sees little sunlight; home to Tural’s Hrothgar and Mamool Ja, and replete with stunning cenotes harboring cerulean ponds and springs,” said a slide during the presentation.

Besides additional information about Yok Tural, Yoshida revealed many new additions, likely to be part of the 7.0 Dawntrail expansion. He highlighted the following:
- The lvl cap was changed from 90 to 100
- There are two new jobs: Yoshida did not give the job names for the melee DPS, and the ranged magical DPS.
- New dungeons have been added.
- New crafting and gathering gear and recipes were added
- New dungeon variants
- New Alliance Raid
- New 8-Player Raid
- New Ultimate Raid
- The Pelupelu are a new race of Yok Tural residents.
- According to Yoshida, the Final Fantasy XIV PvP will be updated during Dawntrail’s updates.
- Blue Mage has been updated.
- “Inconceivably further Hildibrand adventures”
- New Plans for Deep Dungeons
- Gold Saucer Update
- Eyeglasses will be included in the gameplay as equipment in addition to Headgear
- Each gear piece will have two dyes.
- Increased furnishing limit (scheduled for a post-7.0 patch)
- “Strategy Board” for planning responsibilities, raid methods, and more.
- As part of Patch 6.5X – Free trial extended: Stormblood, the expansion following Heavensward, will now be included.
- The Final Fantasy XIV Xbox Series X/S version has been announced.
Graphics will be updated!
Yoshida also detailed various graphics enhancements for Final Fantasy XIV that Creative Business Unit III has been developing, displaying different adjustments in several videos. He claims that the studio prioritizes “screen-wide aesthetic appeal” over individual character adjustments, which explains why the update will modify almost every aspect of the game: shadows, materials, characters, UI, and others.
There will also be “higher-resolution textures and shadows.” Yoshida said that the staff is tackling these graphics upgrades gradually, so don’t anticipate everything to be aesthetically upgraded all at once. He claims that what you see in 7.0 is a good picture of future graphic modifications.
