Making A Profit in WoTLK with The Zapthrottle Mote Extractor

In this guide you’ll learn how to make a profit in WoTLK with one of the more unorthodox farming methods available. Making around 37 gold for a stack of Primal Air is just a little taste of what you can achieve with this guide. This method requires you to have an Engineering profession and a fast flying mount.

The Zapthrottle Mote Extractor is one of the most lucrative Engineering Gadgets in World of Warcraft’s history, enabling a novel Gold Making method. This gadget can extract Motes from gas clouds, which can then be combined into Primals. Unlike traditional farming methods that rely on killing mobs or gathering professions, farming with the Zapthrottle Mote Extractor is distinct in that it does not require these activities. However, a high level of Engineering skill is necessary to utilize this technique.

How and Where to Farm Clouds?

There are three types of clouds you can farm in Wrath of the Lich King Classic, for three different Crystallized elements:

In WOTLK you can find three different types of clouds and extract three Crystallized elements as a result:

Cloud Target Items Zones
Air 37g 1s 92c Dragonblight, Storm Peaks, Icecrown
Fire 10g 77s 30c Dragonblight, Sholazar Basin, Wintergrasp
Water 20g 64s 87c Borean Tundra, Sholazar Basin

Air and Water from Arctic Cloud

Starting with the Arctic Cloud that yields up to 5 Crystallized Air or Crystallized Water.

As you can see below, the Storm Peaks and Dragonblight zones have an even distribution of spots where you can find the Arctic type of clouds. You will also find them in Icecrown, although not in such a great number as in the other two places.

Fire from the Cinter Cloud

Same as before, you can get up to 5 Crystallized Fire from the Cinder Cloud. Keep in mind, though, this type of cloud is rather rare. The zones where you can find them are:

  • Dragonblight
  • Sholazar Basin
  • Wintergrasp

Water and Fire from Steam Cloud

Steam Cloud can be found all around the Sholazar Basin. Some can also be found around the Borean Tundra.

How Good is this Method?

The Zapthrottle Mote Extractor method of making a profit in World of Warcraft has several positives and negatives:

Positives:

  • This method is unique and does not require players to farm mobs or use gathering professions.
  • It can be done in various zones throughout the game.
  • Motes and Primals can be sold on the auction house for a profit, and the prices of these items can fluctuate based on demand.
  • Players can earn a significant amount of gold if they have a high enough Engineering skill and are efficient at farming the gas clouds.
  • This method can be done solo or in a group, allowing for flexibility in playstyle.

Negatives:

  • The amount of gold earned may vary based on the current market prices and the competition from other players farming the same gas clouds.
  • The Zapthrottle Mote Extractor requires a high Engineering skill level to use, which may be a barrier for some players.
  • This method may become repetitive and tedious over time.
  • The gas clouds may be spread out and difficult to locate in some zones, leading to wasted time and effort.
  • This method may not be as profitable as other gold-making methods, such as farming rare items or materials.

This method may not be for you and that’s absolutely fine! If you can’t afford to spend time to use the extractor yourself, you can instead opt for our services at LFCarry.com!
