Introducing Classes in Diablo 4
As we’ve mentioned above, the game offers players five classes to choose from. These are Barbarian, Rogue, Druid, Sorcerer, and Necromancer, whom we know pretty well from the past installments. And since Diablo 4 is the franchise’s new chapter, we’ll see not just a new story and challenges but new versions of these characters as well, which fans had a chance to try out during the open beta.
The devs took the best from each class and enhanced it by modifying their abilities and mechanics to bring us a completely new experience. So, let’s take a closer look at what distinguishes Diablo 4 classes from their predecessors.
Diablo 4 Classes Summary Table

Barbarian
The class is known for its strength, aggressive attacks, and brutal melee abilities. In the upcoming game, most of their abilities remain the same, while talents and skills are rearranged into new categories. However, they received a new unique mechanic – the Arsenal system.
It allows Barbarian Diablo 4 to equip four different weapons simultaneously and then freely switch between them during the fight. Thus, this mechanic will unlock new playstyles fans can use in battle. To learn more about the class, make sure to check our Barbarian guide.
Rogue
Firstly introduced in the original Diablo and inspired by the character from Dungeons & Dragons, the class is famous for their swiftness and agility, which are enhanced in the new game. Diablo 4 Rogue is more customizable than their predecessors, with an opportunity to choose between three specializations.
Core abilities revolve around using weapons, such as swords, bows, and others, and dodging foes’ attacks. Moreover, they can unlock new abilities like shadow magic and fill weapon attacks with elemental damage through skill trees and completing certain quests. For a more detailed review, read our Rogue guide.
Sorcerer
In essence, the class shares a lot with Sorcerer from Diablo 2 regarding using elemental magic to defeat enemies. Many of their spell skills fall into the same broad elemental categories of fire, ice, and lightning used in AoEs, defensive barriers, and projectiles. The fans of the Diablo 2 character will undoubtedly be happy about it.
However, there’s something that drastically distinguishes Sorcerer or Sorceress Diablo 4, and this is the addition of two new mechanics: Crackling Energy that restores Mana and the Enchantment system, which allows players to convert particular spell skills into passive buffs. Now we have to wait for the game’s release to put these features to the test.
Druid
This class has a lot in common with Diablo 2’s version and gets something from all classes, as their magic skills let them fight enemies from afar using conjured storms, while shape-shifting allows them to transform into creatures capable of melee attacks. Plus, their companion skills also allow them to summon allies among animals and plants.
What makes Diablo 4 Druid unique is that they cast spells of Storm and Earth elementals, unlike their version from the past games. If you’d like to learn more about Druid’s skills and abilities, we broke them down in our previous guide.
Necromancer
Arguably, this is the most intimidating class capable of summoning skeletons and golems of bone, blood, iron, and clay, casting spells, and putting curses to enfeeble foes. Diablo 4 Necromancer combines these abilities with the ones they got from Diablo 3, which are a variety of blood spells and the ability to drain energy from enemies.
In the new game, players can access Book of the Dead to customize their minions or turn them into passive boons. Those who choose this class will be granted various skills and abilities that they can utilize however they like, and we listed them all in our Necromancer overview.
