Don’t Miss Out On This New In-Game Activity
The Terminal Overload activity in Destiny 2 is a recent addition in Lightfall. Similar to The Blind Well, Altars of Sorrow, and Escalation Protocol, this event provides a series of increasingly difficult challenges that players can face in the streets of Neomuna. Players can receive unique weapons as rewards for completing these challenges. Moreover, Terminal Overload is the best method to obtain the Strand guns that correspond with Lightfall’s latest subclass.
While exploring Neomuna, you might have come across this activity, only to be defeated quickly by a boss or an enemy. Terminal Overload has a high power level, so it’s best to avoid it until you’ve reached at least the first cap at 1750 and finished the campaign. This is also because you cannot obtain Terminal Overload keys, which are the best way to receive guaranteed Strand guns, until you have completed the activity.
Therefore, to obtain Terminal Overload keys and unlock an additional chest at the end of the event, you should follow these steps. Additionally, the current weapon rotation for the event is also provided.
How to Get Started?
Acquiring Terminal Overload keys is only possible after finishing both the Lightfall campaign and the subsequent Welcome to the Hall of Heroes quest. After completing these quests, Quinn Laghari will give you the Stargazer quest, which will guide you on how to obtain and utilize a key at the end of the Terminal Overload event. Upon finishing the quest, you can continue to acquire keys through similar methods.
- Patrols
- Public events
- Chests
- Nimbus bounties
While daily Nimbus bounties are only available at rank 13, the most effective way to acquire keys is by combining the first two methods. Since patrols and public events both involve eliminating enemies, they can be accomplished simultaneously. Additionally, opening the initial chest at the end of the Terminal Overload event sometimes rewards a key.
To obtain Neomuna’s Strand weapons, which are the primary reward for completing Terminal Overload, it is recommended to unlock the Upgrade Terminal Overload key chest node with Nimbus. This node follows the ability to acquire key bounties and guarantees a Neomuna weapon when opening the second chest with a key, making it a valuable upgrade to have before participating in the event.
Get Different Weapons from Different Districts
The Terminal Overload event moves through Neomuna’s primary areas, and the weapons that you can obtain from the chest at the end of the event with your Terminal Overload key depend on the area. Each region weapon and rotation order are as follows:
- Ahimsa Park (Terminal Overload: AP) – Basso Ostinato (Void shotgun)
- Liming Harbor (Terminal Overload: LH) – Synchronic Roulette (Strand submachine gun)
- Zephyr Concourse (Terminal Overload: ZC) – Circular Logic (Strand heavy machine gun)
One of the most significant attractions of Terminal Overload is that it provides Strand weapons, such as Circular Logic and Synchronic Roulette, which can both feature the Hatchling perk that creates a Threadling upon precise or rapid final blows. Basso Ostinato, on the other hand, comes with the new Destabilising Rounds perk, which causes nearby targets to become volatile upon landing a final blow.
Here’s the list of all 10 Strand weapons you can try to obtain:
Art | Weapon | Type | Ammo? | Element? | Source | Craftable? | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Koraxis’s Distress | Grenade Launcher | Heavy | Strand | Root of Nightmares Raid | |||
Mykel’s Reverence | Sidearm | Primary | Strand | Root of Nightmares Raid | |||

If you’re trying to build a reputation with Nimbus, keep in mind that at the time of writing, you can farm the first chest by quickly leaving the area through a sparrow and returning to open it again. However, this will most likely be fixed soon.
