Deep Stone Crypt Raid Guide

The Deep Stone Crypt is a raid in Destiny 2 introduced with the Beyond Light expansion. Set on the icy moon of Europa, this raid takes players through the birthplace of the Exo race, where they must face challenging encounters, solve puzzles, and defeat powerful bosses. The raid is known for its atmospheric design, complex mechanics, and the opportunity to earn exclusive loot, including the coveted Eyes of Tomorrow Exotic Rocket Launcher. It requires a fireteam of six players, teamwork, and strategy to complete.

Deep Stone Crypt Weapons Updates

Season 19 introduced exciting updates to the Destiny 2 Deep Stone Crypt raid, including the ability to craft weapons and access new perks, which has made this raid more popular than ever.

DSC weapons have become highly desirable, with all legendary weapons now featuring the new Origin Trait. Introduced in the Witch Queen expansion, Origin Traits are passive bonuses that enhance weapon performance without the need for complex activation, making them more appealing than their older counterparts. The raid’s relevance has grown in the current meta, with most of its weapons, except for the Eyes of Tomorrow, now being craftable, allowing players to unlock enhanced perks. Additionally, the Legacy of the Oath armor sets stand out as some of the most impressive in the game.

The raid also offers additional rewards, including two hidden chests and a new Cache of the Crypt system that uses Spoils of Conquest.

Moreover, players have the chance to earn the rare Descendant Title and complete the Rock Bottom triumph, adding even more incentive to revisit this raid.

How To Prepare For The Raid

As an older raid, Deep Stone Crypt had a minimum power level requirement of 1300 during the Season of Defiance. However, now players of any power level can easily take on this raid. There aren’t any specific weapon requirements either—just use what you’re most comfortable with, or consider the recommendations provided below.

In Deep Stone Crypt, the focus is more on solving puzzles and mastering mechanics rather than facing tough enemies. However, when it comes to the final boss, Taniks, less experienced teams may find it advantageous to include a Titan and Warlock, as their abilities can be particularly useful.

The raid includes five encounters, featuring two boss battles: one against Atraks-1, Fallen Exo, and the other against Taniks, Reborn, the final boss.

What should I bring to the Deep Stone Crypt?

  • For the first encounter, it’s effective to use a high DPS shotgun, whether explosive or non-precision, such as The Fourth Horseman, Falling Guillotine, One Thousand Voices, or Xenophage paired with a Void special weapon. Additionally, equipping a mod that allows grenades to disrupt Overload Champions is especially useful for Solar or Stasis classes and beneficial for the third encounter as well.
  • The Lament is highly recommended for the second encounter. Consider adding weapons like Truthteller, Deafening Whisper, or a Sniper to your loadout for added effectiveness.
  • In the third encounter, prioritize weapons like swords, LMGs, and Grenade Launchers to effectively deal with Overload Champions. It’s also helpful to have a strategy for clearing adds.
  • For the final encounter, Anarchy, a slug shotgun, and potentially a sniper are recommended, though the sniper isn’t always necessary. Ensure that one team member is using Divinity.

First encounter Sparrows

  • Objective: The goal of the first encounter is to locate the entrance to the Crypt. After clearing enemies in Eventide Ruins, Guardians must find the hatch that leads down a tunnel where a red bubble is visible.
  • Navigating the Storm: The team must navigate through the storm on their sparrows (or the provided pikes), moving from one red bubble to the next. Time is critical, so move quickly and carefully. Along the path, there are mines that can slow down your sparrows and cliffs that require careful jumps.
  • Frostbite Debuff: As you move between bubbles, be aware of the Frostbite debuff. If it reaches 10 stacks, the Guardian will die. Some bubbles may also contain enemies that need to be cleared before proceeding.
  • Strategy for Difficult Sections: If your team struggles with this section, you can use a helpful tactic. Send one player ahead to the next bubble. If they die, their ghost will return to the previous bubble, allowing the team to revive them quickly without waiting for the full respawn timer.
  • End of the Encounter: At the last bubble, you’ll see an image of the Brig, indicating the encounter’s end. Expect to face enemies here.
  • Proceeding to the Next Encounter: After finishing the encounter, simply go through the nearby door. The first secret chest of the Deep Stone Crypt is located just beyond the Brig bubble, on a branch to the right.

Second Encounter Crypt Security

The second encounter’s goal is to disable Crypt Security by correctly shooting three fuses on the upper level. The arena is divided into an upstairs area and a basement, each split into a light and dark side.

To start, the team splits into two groups, one on each side of the upper level. Each group has a player who picks up the Operator buff, while another player acquires the Scanner buff from a specific enemy. The Scanner identifies glowing keypads by looking through floor windows and communicates their locations.

The Operator then heads to the basement, shooting the identified keypads. Timing is crucial, as the Operator has limited time before being trapped and burned. After this, the buffs are exchanged between players using the augment terminal: the Operator buff returns upstairs, and the Scanner buff goes to the basement, where the new Scanner identifies which fuse is glowing.

The upstairs team shoots the correct fuse based on the Scanner’s callouts. If not completed in one phase, the Operator resets the countdown by passing their buff back upstairs.

Throughout the encounter, enemies spawn continuously, so it’s important for the team to manage them while executing the mechanics.

Third Encounter Atraks-1, Fallen Exo

In the third encounter, you face Atraks-1, the first boss. The arena is split into two levels: the bottom floor, where the team starts, and the top floor, which is accessed via space pods at the back of the room. The Operator keypads are in the airlock chambers on both sides.

The team splits into two groups of three, with one group staying on the bottom floor and the other heading to the top. Before the encounter starts, one player must defeat an enemy to obtain the Operator buff, which they’ll hold for the entire encounter. Meanwhile, another player on the top floor will need to secure the Scanner buff.

To start the damage phase, both teams must simultaneously kill Servitors that spawn after the Scanner buff is collected. Atraks-1 will then create multiple clones on both floors, starting at the top. The Scanner identifies the correct glowing yellow clone, and the team focuses their damage on it.

After the clone is defeated, a purple orb, the Atraks-1 Replication debuff, is left behind. A non-Operator player must pick it up, triggering a countdown. To prevent a wipe, the Operator must open an airlock so the player can remove the debuff by shooting the orb inside. Atraks-1’s soul will then float into space.

Once the damage phase ends, the Scanner buff is passed to the bottom floor team to repeat the process. After identifying and damaging the correct clone, the player with the debuff uses the space pods to return to the top floor, where the Operator helps them remove the debuff.

The final phase begins when all eight pieces of Atraks-1’s soul are sent into space. The entire team gathers on the top floor, and the Scanner identifies the final glowing clone for the team to defeat.

Key points to remember: The damage phase is time-sensitive, so coordination is crucial to avoid missing opportunities to deal damage. The Operator must frequently send space pods down to help players with the debuff return to the top and remove it. If needed, the Operator can shoot off the debuff to reset the countdown.

Fourth Encounter Taniks, Reborn

After the third encounter, the team tackles a jumping puzzle leading to a cockpit-like area, where a secret chest can be found on a platform to the left after re-entering the station.

The next encounter involves suppressing Taniks while depositing nuclear cores. To start, simply approach Taniks at the front of the arena. At this stage, he can’t be defeated, so the goal is to correctly place the nuclear cores into terminals near him.

This encounter introduces a new role, the Suppressor, alongside the familiar Operator and Scanner roles. The team should split into three pairs, each handling one of these roles, with a primary and backup player. The Operator shoots keypads to unlock the cores, while the Scanner identifies the correct terminals to deposit them. The Suppressor stuns Taniks by shooting him from specific points in the room.

After stunning Taniks three times, one player may receive a Deactivated Augment debuff and will need to pass their role to a partner. Those without active roles focus on clearing enemies and managing the nuclear cores, being careful to avoid a fatal Radiation debuff by passing the cores as needed.

Once enough cores are deposited, the floor opens up, and the team must quickly drop down and sprint through a hallway as the vessel begins to crash.

Final Encounter: Taniks, The Abomination

We’ve arrived at the final boss fight, which takes place outside the Crypt where the team first entered. Although this encounter is challenging, it’s manageable with the right strategy, and our Taniks Abomination boss kill service can help you secure the Eyes of Tomorrow.

The objective is to defeat Taniks by shooting him to release nuclear cores, which must be deposited into the correct terminals to trigger the damage phase. The roles remain consistent with the previous encounter, with Operators, Scanners, and Suppressors handling their tasks.

Operators focus on freeing teammates trapped in deadly purple bubbles, while Scanners identify the correct terminals for core deposits. Suppressors stun Taniks by shooting him from beneath glowing orbs, allowing the team to deposit the cores and begin the damage phase.

The arena is split into three zones, and Taniks will move between them, requiring players to dodge his attacks and shoot his boosters to release nuclear cores. Once the cores are deposited, the damage phase begins. After Taniks is weakened, he will teleport away, and the final task is to finish him off.

With Taniks defeated, you can enjoy the well-earned Deep Stone Crypt rewards.
