What Are Seasonal Engrams?
Seasonal engrams are special loot boxes that can be earned during limited-time events throughout the year. These engrams contain exclusive gear, weapons, and cosmetics available only during that particular season. Each season brings a new set of engrams with unique rewards, making them highly sought after by dedicated players. They are a crucial component of Destiny 2’s ongoing content updates and provide players with exciting new items to collect and use in-game.
Players can earn seasonal engrams by completing specific activities or leveling up their character. The vast majority of D2 vendors offer unique Engrams that, when obtained, can drop fantastic items; however, you’ll have to spend the correct amount of currency. This gives players the opportunity to farm specific weapons or gear by engaging in their preferred in-game instances. Engram Focusing is essential if you’re seeking new armor sets or red border seasonal weapons.
From Season 20 onwards, Destiny 2 has ceased dropping Umbral Engrams and shifted to employing Seasonal Engrams for its seasonal content. The Engram Focusing system has now been introduced to almost every core vendor in the game. We expect this to continue in Season 21.
What is Engram Focusing?
First featured in Season of Arrivals, Engram Focusing is now crucial to the gameplay, as it’s a fantastic method to obtain crafting blueprints through resonance weapons and target farm the exact gear you desire.
Engram Focusing enables players to obtain a specific weapon or armor piece from an Engram. You can do this by heading towards H.E.L.M or the Tower and finding a vendor. You’ll have to deliver a specific amount of Glimmer or Legendary Shards if you want something specific, like a high-stat armor.
Each vendor stores playlist-specific Engrams in their reward track, which you can find at the top-right of the rewards screen. The vast majority of the activity vendors offer 2 focusing tabs:
- Focused Decoding: Includes the latest items, usually launched within the last year.
- Legacy Gear: Contains earlier items launched over a year ago and is more costly. They typically are armor sets.
Note that H.E.L.M vendors cannot provide you with legacy focusing. Soon, a significant modification in the game’s loot mechanics in Season 21 will enable players to focus Exotic engrams. We will talk more about it towards the end of the guide.
What Vendors Provide Engram Focusing Options?
- Zavala
- Shaxx
- Drifter
- Saint-14
- Lord Saladin
- The War Table.
How Much Does Focusing Cost?
25 Legendary Shards, 5.000 Glimmer + a particular Engram type.
Legacy focusing is more pricey, as you’ll need at least 50 Legendary Shards and 10,000 Glimmer. You’ll also require extra Trials Engrams if we talk about Trials of Osiris Legacy focusing. On the other hand, Zavala’s focusing will need Vanguard Engrams. You can obtain them from Vanguard Ops and Nightfalls.
We recommend you wait until the end of the season to start focusing Vanguard, Crucible, and Gambit Engrams. This is because Focused loot will inevitably be affected by vendor resets when regulating bonus perk options.
How Can I Obtain Vendor Engrams?
By engaging in any instance that uses a reputation system, you can already obtain vendor Engrams, which you can focus. In Vanguard activities, you’ll find Vanguard Engrams, the same thing with Crucible Engrams, that can be obtained in Crucible matches. Seasonal Engrams drop from almost any activity.
H.E.L.M. vendor upgrades and Season Pass bonuses can make seasonal Engrams drop from particular instances. You can check various Engram drop sources in the following table.
Engram | Vendor | Acquisition Method |
Legendary Engram | None | Drops from your defeated foes and activity rewards. |
Pinnacle Engram | None | Don’t drop usually from your defeated foes and activity rewards. |

Gambit Engram | The Drifter Tower | Gambit Rank: Accomplish Gambit matches. Wins will give you bonus progress. |
Iron Engram | Lord Saladin Tower | Iron Banner Rank: Accomplish Iron Banner matches when the playlist is still active. Wins will give you bonus progress. |

Exotic Armor Focusing On Season 21
Starting in Season 21, Guardians can approach Rahool to transform their Exotic engrams into specific gear items they desire. With the upcoming change, Exotic Engrams won’t auto-decrypt into armor pieces but will stay in the player’s inventory. Guardians can then go to Rahool for free decryption, obtaining a random Exotic gear as before. Additionally, they can focus the engram with two different methods:
- The first option lets players focus an Exotic engram of a particular expansion’s release. By spending one Exotic engram, one Ascendant Shard, and 30,000 Glimmer, they can obtain a specific gear piece from a particular year of Destiny 2.
- The second option allows players to directly focus on the Exotic armor they want, which requires one Exotic engram, three Ascendant Shards, 60,000 Glimmer, and one Exotic Cipher. The Exotic Cipher stack limit will increase from one to five to accommodate their enhanced usage.
Destiny 2 Ghost mods, which help players target specific stats in armor drops, are expected to work with the Exotic focusing system. The devs clarified that new armor pieces cannot be focused, and players must acquire them through Lost Sectors or Vex Strike Force for now.
