Blizzard has unveiled a third Evoker spec named Augmentation. The Talent Calculator now includes it in the 10.1.5 PTR, along with other revamped specs. This third Spec was disclosed in the 10.1.5 preview last week, marking the first time we’ve received a brand-new specialization in the middle of an expansion. Dive in with us to learn more about it!

Understanding The Augmentation Spec
As many had predicted, Augmentation is a damage-dealing spec with an attractive plus: it buffs your group with different effects and enhances their skills. To achieve this, Augmentation utilizes the essence of the Black and Bronze dragonflights. Some of its buffs can be directly applied to your allies, while a few are linked to effectively using your damage-dealing skills. This Spec brings a unique approach to dealing with damage. Augmentation Evokers multiply force, considerably enhancing their allies’ performance and damage output.
Using Augmentation On Your Party
As we already discussed, various Augmentation skills will allow you to buff your party and particular members of your group. Most of them have smart targeting (or proximity-based), which will allow you to keep your attention on the battleground and enemy selection. You also can target particular members of the group. Nonetheless, you can enhance your allies as you see fit. As with other Evoker specializations, Augmentation leverages already-known skills such as spending Essence, effectively navigating the battleground using your mobility, and employing empowered spells.
Harnessing The Power Of Black And Bronze
Below you can see the sample abilities for Augmentation. They alone should provide some insights into what each aspect of magic contributes to the gameplay.
- Black Dragonflight Magic concentrates on raw power enhancement and intense displays of earthen might.
- Bronze Dragonflight Magic concentrates on manipulating time, altering fate, and changing timelines to create significant effects.
1.5-second cast, 30-second cooldown. | Increase your 4 nearest allies’ primary stat by a percentage of your own, and cause your Eruption to deal more damage for 10 sec. Some of your other spells extend the duration of these effects.
2-second cast. Costs 3 Essence. Replaces Disintegrate. | Cause a violent eruption beneath an enemy’s feet, dealing Volcanic damage split between them and nearby enemies. Increases the duration of your active Ebon Might effects.
2.5-second empower 40-second cooldown. | Gather earthen power beneath your enemy’s feet and send them hurtling upwards, dealing Volcanic damage to them and nearby enemies. Empowering expands the area of effect. Increases the duration of your active Ebon Might effects.
1.5-minute cooldown. Replaces Deep Breath. | Fly to the targeted location, exposing Temporal Wounds on enemies in your path for 10 sec. Temporal Wounds accumulate a portion of damage dealt by your allies and then critically strike the enemy for that amount at the end of the duration. Increases the duration of your active Ebon Might effects. |
Talent Tree Updated
With a new spec tree, Augmentation Evokers can opt to further specialize in Bronze or Black Magic and find new methods to empower their companions.
Players can discover how to tune themselves to the essence of the Black or Bronze Dragonflights:
Black Alignment bestows you and your 4 closest allies with enhanced maximum health.
Bronze Alignment gives you and your 4 closest allies a boost in movement speed.
Shield an ally with explosive dragon scales, enhancing their Armor based on a percentage of your own. Any melee attacks on them trigger a scale explosion, inflicting Volcanic damage on nearby adversaries.
Conjure a duo of Weyrnstones, one designated for your target ally and the other for you. The bearer can trigger a Weyrnstone to teleport them to the other Weyrnstone’s position if they are within a 100-yard radius.
Discover New Possibilities
Augmentation Evokers presents a unique chance to explore a playstyle utterly new to the gameplay. Even though some elements of this new paradigm are still in development (like adding new combat log hooks for addons and community websites to accurately measure your performance, for instance), we hope you’ve liked this first glimpse. NEW EVOKER SPECIALIZATION: AUGMENTATION
Emberthal and Ebyssian are working together to release the Black dragonflight essence that had been siphoned from the Dracthyr during their long stasis, unlocking memories and powers forgotten to them. All Evokers now can choose to explore Azeroth as a new specialization: Augmentation.
Augmentation is a Damage Dealer role that uses the essence of the Black and Bronze dragonflights to amplify the abilities of nearby allies. Their playstyle centers on empowering allies to increase their damage output, and using the Evoker’s direct damage spells to improve these empowerments’ effects. Augmentation’s core capabilities will feel familiar to Evoker players, such as spending Essence, casting empower spells, and using their mobility to navigate the battlefield. However, the specialization also introduces many new tools for the Evoker to manipulate the environment in their favor, and assist their allies.
The quest “The 5th Essence” is available for Evokers to try out their new specialization and what it means to the dracthyr at large. The quest is still under development and will be updated on the PTR through the weeks to come.
Augmentation has a fully playable talent tree, and many new spells for players to enjoy. A few spells are highlighted below, but see our web article for more information, and check out Augmentation on the PTR starting today!
