Exotics

If you’re a new player, obtaining exotic armor should be one of your first priorities in Destiny 2. Here are some methods to farm exotic armor:

Playlist Activities and Vendor Rank Ups: Playing the game and grabbing rewards from playlist activities and vendor rank-ups (such as Zavala, The Drifter, and Shaxx) is a basic way to obtain exotics. The first time you reset your rank with them, you will get an Ascendant Shard, and after that, you will start getting exotics on each reset.
Lost Sectors: The best method to farm exotic armor requires you to be at least 1810 power level. This involves farming Lost Sectors on their Legend difficulty. You have about a 30% chance of obtaining an exotic as long as you kill every single champion before opening the final chest. Depending on the Lost Sector and your loadout, some of these can be completed in under a minute.
Vex Incursions: Completing Vex Incursions on Neomuna guarantees an exotic armor piece that you don’t already own. You can see when the event is happening on your map.
Nightfalls: Nightfalls have a chance of dropping exotics that you already own at the end of the activity. In higher difficulty Nightfalls, it’s almost guaranteed.
Xur: Visit Xur every week to see what he’s selling. This can be a bit pricey for new players, but it’s an easy way to get some exotics early on. You can check Xur’s location on whereisxur.com.
Rahool in the Tower: If you want to focus on specific exotics or try your luck with random ones, Rahool allows you to do that. It is a bit pricey but worth it if you want a better roll on a specific exotic.

High Stat Armor

High stat armor should be your priority when getting started. The easiest way to obtain high stat armor is to buy it from any of the vendors in the HELM. They all sell very high-quality armor. Even after they are gone next season, we will most likely get new seasonal vendors in their place that will also sell high stat armor.

Ascendant Shards

To masterwork your armor, you’re going to need a lot of rare materials such as Ascendant Shards. Here are some methods to obtain them:

Vendor Rank Resets: Resetting your rank with each vendor in the Tower will give you one Ascendant Shard the first time you reset it. Any further resets will give you exotic engrams instead.
Nightfalls: Master and Grandmaster Nightfalls have a high chance of dropping Ascendant Shards. In Grandmasters, it’s guaranteed as long as you get a platinum score.
Rahool in the Tower: Rahool will exchange one Ascendant Shard for 10 prisms. This is a fair trade if you have any spare prisms.
Trials of Osiris: In PvP, you can obtain Ascendant Shards once you get your Trials card to seven wins. You don’t even have to go flawless; simply keep playing for a low chance of obtaining a shard.

Enhancement Prisms

Enhancement Prisms are not the most mandatory material in the game, but they are still important. Here are some methods to obtain them:

Lost Sectors: Farming Lost Sectors on Legend or Master difficulty is your best bet. Master difficulty will provide more prisms but is not worth the extra time unless you can do both at similar speeds.
Vendor Rank Ups: Leveling up with vendors in the Tower will also provide you with enhancement prisms.
Nightfalls: Nightfalls have a chance of dropping prisms at the end, and this can be done on any difficulty.
Rahool in the Tower: Rahool offers one enhancement prism for 10 cores, but this is not a good deal unless you are very desperate.

Enhancement Cores

Enhancement Cores are probably the currency that you will use the most in the game. Here are some methods to obtain them:

Banshee Bounties: These reset daily and can be completed on each character, giving you a total of 84 cores per week.
Lost Sectors: Farming Lost Sectors will provide you with enhancement cores as they are an extremely common reward.
Blinding Well: This activity will provide you with around five cores per completion, which takes about 8 minutes.
Vendor Rank Ups: Ranking up with vendors in the Tower will also provide you with enhancement cores.
Rahool in the Tower: Rahool has a good exchange rate with five cores for one prism, but these are limited.

Legendary Shards

Legendary Shards are getting removed from the game in Final Shape, but they are still useful right now. Here are some methods to obtain them:

Play the Game: Simply playing the game will provide you with legendary shards.
Ghost Shell Mod: A prosperity mod on your Ghost Shell will give you a chance to obtain extra gear at the end of some activities, which you can dismantle for legendary shards.
Dares of Eternity: This activity is good for obtaining gear to dismantle for legendary shards.

Glimmer

Glimmer is a currency that you will be spending every single day in Destiny 2. Here are some methods to obtain it:

Rainmakers: Using Rainmakers will instantly give you 3,000 glimmer.
Rahool in the Tower: Rahool has a bunch of exchanges that you can use to buy glimmer.

Upgrade Modules

Red Border Weapons

Ascendant Alloys
