What Catalysts Do Fans Find Hard to Get?
A quick reminder for those who might not be familiar with this particular aspect of the game: Destiny 2 offers players an opportunity to upgrade their weapons by enhancing their stats or adding perks. However, not every type of firearm can be improved the same way. Exotics, for instance, require the player to find a catalyst for a particular gun and then unlock it by completing a specific objective.
Some catalysts are relatively easy to obtain and activate, while others have more demanding requirements. And as many have pointed out, some of the older Exotics usually end up in the latter category, mostly because of the new updates Bungie introduces and the removal of some of the previous content.
The recent examples are the catalysts for Leviathan’s Breath and the Ruinous Effigy mentioned by a Reddit user GamerNumber16. These Exotics have been in the game for years, meaning that some ways of unlocking their catalysts aren’t accessible anymore. This leaves players needing to use alternative options to complete the objectives, which are currently considered arguably the longest grinds.
How to Unlock Catalysts for Leviathan's Breath and the Ruinous Effigy?
Throughout its existence in the game, Leviathan’s Breath has undergone many significant changes that made this bow one of the most powerful and sought-after weapons in this season. Thanks to its catalyst, Leviathan’s Breath now has increased ammo capacity (from 10 to 15) and reduced draw time after every precision hit. So, it’s no wonder that players want to get their hands on it.
But, as many pointed out, it’s far from an easy task to complete, as unlocking the catalyst requires you to get 1,500 kills with this weapon. You can achieve that by defeating every enemy in your way or speeding up the process by hunting Wrathborn, and that’s where the problem starts. As was mentioned by GamerNumber16, now Wrathborn, who can be found in Mars Battlegrounds, doesn’t speed the progress, leaving players with only one tedious option.
As for the Ruinous Effigy catalyst, it grants the Deconstruction perk that increases the damage against targets hit by Transmutation spheres. Given that the rifle can serve both as a supportive and a destructive weapon that provides you and your allies with Transmutation Orbs, with the catalyst unlocked, it becomes an even more powerful and, therefore, desirable firearm in the game. But if you want to unleash the gun’s full potential, prepare for a lot of work, as the Ruinous Effigy catalyst is even harder to unlock than the one for Leviathan’s Breath.
The two options the player can choose from are either destroying 50 Eyes of Savathun or getting 5,000 kills with this Trace rifle. But the thing is that Eyes of Savathun haven’t been in the game for a long time, meaning that the only way to activate Ruinous Effigy catalyst is to secure those 5,000 kills. Naturally, fans are not happy with that at all and are asking Bungie to do something about it.
This weapon needs ANYTHING that makes its catalyst progress faster, reduction of the requirements, increased progression when doing X, adding Eyes back into the game, anything.

This suggestion didn’t go unnoticed in the community, as many players also expressed their frustrations under GamerNumber16’s post, which once again demonstrates how desperately these catalyst quests need to be changed. Since Bungie has addressed such issues in the past, simplifying the unlocking process, there’s a hope that the same will happen with this case as well.
