Fyrakk Motivation

Recently, the developers released the Fury Incarnate in-game cinematic we’ll see in Patch 10.1.7, which goes live on September 5. Besides the revelation of the Patch 10.2 setting, the video showed us how strained the relationship between Vyranoth and Fyrakk is.

As the scene begins, we see Gerithus, son of Merithra, (who we know from the main story of Ohn’ahran Plains) lying on the floor and clearly in pain with Fyrakk standing over him. We learn that Merithra, the new Aspect of the Green Dragonflight, was supposed to be the first captive Fyrakk had planned to take. Gerithus is frequently spotted on Merithra’s side and contributes significantly to the flight, so the Fire Primalist Incarnate takes him instead.

Soon, Fyrakk reveals that he’s looking for the fledgling World Tree, Amirdrassil, which the Dragon Aspects have been expecting since the events of the Dawn of the Infinite dungeon.

Elune and the Winter Queen, sisters, worked together in the Shadowlands to create the Sister’s Tear, a potent artifact in the shape of a seed. Later, the Night Elf souls of those who perished during the destruction of Teldrassil invested in the future of their people by infusing this seed with their essence. The seed was given to Tyrande, who planted it in the Emerald Dream, where it started to grow and was guarded by the Green Dragonflight. The Night Elves’ future home, Amirdrassil, is destined to be a great World Tree, but it is still fragile at this time.

We learn that Fyrakk wants to absorb its heart and expects Gerithus to take him to the Tree. When Gerithus refuses, he threatens to kill every dragon standing in his way, and this is not something that can be ignored.

The Fire Incarnate’s danger to another World Tree brings back fresh and yet bitter memories of the burning of Teldrassil. Many Night Elves, including Tyrande, had their faith in Elune rocked by the tragedy, and Iridikron threatened that it would be shaken again. When the Titans, the dragons’ gods, fail to intervene to protect them from Fyrakk’s fury, the faith of the dragons will be severely tested.

The Power of Shadowflame

However, though Fyrakk threatens Gerithus, he promises that he won’t touch anyone if the son of Merithra helps him. But as the Fire Primalist Incarnate talks about it, we can see the Shadowflame – that once consumed Neltharion – starting to burn inside his eyes. When it happens, Fyrakk’s voice also changes to a deeper one, which indicates that he is falling into the madness of the Void, just like Deathwing.

But suddenly, Fyrakk is interrupted by Vyranoth, the Frost Primalist Incarnate. When she speaks, the Shadowflame in his eyes extinguishes, and we are reminded of their different personalities. While Fyrakk is hot-headed, his sister is reasonable.

The Tension Between Siblings

Vyranoth reminds Fyrakk of the values of the Primalist Incarnates and makes a reference to how the Titans stole the future of the Primalists’ children by infusing Dragon Eggs with Order-aligned water, an act that Alexstrasza has recently called abhorrent.

In that moment, we can see that Vyranoth represents the Primalists’ cause. It is also clear that when other Primalists have done horrible things, like corrupting dragon eggs themselves, she doesn’t want to use such methods. On the contrary, when she witnesses her allies go against Primalists’s principles, she intervenes just like she does this time.

Fyrakk tries to excuse his actions, explaining what he was doing moments ago to his sister, but then, when he starts to use his power on his captive, the Shadowflame returns and quickly takes over him. Seeing her brother in such a state, Vyranoth tries to calm him down with a blast of ice.

It seems to work, but only for a moment, as the next second, Fyrakk, under the influence of Shadowflame, attacks his sister. Vyranoth doesn’t hesitate and fights back, and we witness the fight between siblings, which we may see more in the future.

It’s obvious that Fyrakk has an advantage as he’s empowered by Shadowflame. Understanding that she won’t defeat her brother, Vyranoth does what she does best – trying to reason. She reminds Fyrakk of their cause, and her words seem to extinguish his flame once again.

The Fire Primalist Incarnate accepts what his sister says but remains furious, which we see when he leaves the fire marks on the wall on his way out. As he leaves the scene, Fyrakk says that he will find another way to get to the Tree and claim its power. As we know, in the past, the World Tree’s strength has often depended on the blessing of the Dragon Aspects. Given that it was forged from the Winter Queen and Elune’s tear and imbued with the spirits of the Night Elves, Amirdrassil must be potent in its own right. Those World Trees not blessed by the Aspects are more susceptible to corruption by the Emerald Nightmare because of their connection to the Emerald Dream.

Vyranoth's Doubts

When Fyrakk leaves, we see his sister, who looks thoughtful and clearly troubled by her brother’s motivation. This is when Gerithus thanks her, and she focuses on him. Though, Vyranoth doesn’t reveal what she’s thinking about, it’s notable that she has a lot going on in her mind. Instead of replying to the captive, she leaves without a word, meaning that Gerithus remains trapped.

Yes, it does indicate that Vyranoth’s grace doesn’t extend to more than just sparing Gerithus from her brother’s rage and that she is still loyal to Primalist Incarnates. Yet, this interaction hints at doubts the Frost Primalist Incarnate might have about Fyrakk’s goals and him as well. Who knows, maybe in the future, Vyranoth might side with unexpected allies.
