Conquer the Skies: World of Warcraft’s Dragonriding Breaks Free of the Dragon Isles

WoW players’ dreams of soaring on dragons beyond the Dragon Isles are coming true. Blizzard approved that dragonriding will soon expand to older zones in Azeroth, bringing new excitement to the game. Although not in the upcoming 10.1.5 patch, players can anticipate an exciting addition soon.

The Data-mining Discovery

Dragonriding has become one of the most beloved features in World of Warcraft: Dragonflight. By transforming flying from a mere speed boost to active gameplay, Blizzard has captivated players with this dynamic experience. However, until now, dragonriding was limited to the Dragon Isles and exclusive dragonriding mounts.

Confirmation from Blizzard

In a recent forum post, Blizzard addressed the speculation surrounding dragonriding outside the Dragon Isles and confirmed their plans. The studio stated, “As data-miners have guessed, we are indeed working on dragonriding outside the Dragon Isles and broadening the set of mounts that can dragonride.” This statement reassured players that their hopes were not in vain and that the expansion of dragonriding is actively being developed.

Additionally, Blizzard acknowledged the presence of this feature in the Fractures in Time game files but clarified that it would not be fully complete or featured in the live game until a later update in the Dragonflight expansion. The studio emphasized its commitment to developing the game. It acknowledged that work-in-progress content might become visible to data-miners in test environments, adding, “We intend to announce the contents of any given patch in our official posts about that patch.”

The Fractures of Time: A Glimpse into the Future

While players anticipate the broader availability of dragonriding, Blizzard offers them a taste of what’s to come through the Fractures of Time update. This expansion introduces the Kalimdor Grand Prix, a limited-time event that enables players to participate in dragonriding races across Kalimdor, one of WoW’s original continents. During each race, players can utilize dragonriding, although they will need to employ their regular flying mounts to reach the starting points. Completing races will reward players with badges, which can be exchanged for coveted cosmetic dragonriding racer armor sets and a stunning teal color variant for the Windborne Velocidrake mount.
